Easy Flaxseed Gel Masks for Hair Growth (5 Uses for Curly, Frizzy, and Dry Hair)

Flaxseed gel contains omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals that nourish the scalp and promote hair growth. In this post, I’ll share 5 different ways you can use flaxseed gel to:

  • Promote hair growth
  • Control frizzy hair
  • Reduce breakage and end splits
  • Moisturize and hydrate dry hair
  • Have beautiful shiny curls

Flaxseed gel will also help strengthen your hair. If you are prone to breakage and split ends, this oil mixture will certainly help. Just apply a little extra to the hair ends.

The argan oil will help prevent dryness and, of course, give your hair that beautiful shine.

Flaxseed water and gel will help reduce inflammation on the scalp. Inflammation can inhibit hair follicle function and lead to hair loss.

How to Make Flaxseed Gel For Hair Growth

Creating flaxseed water infused with argan oil is a simple process. Here’s how you can make it at home:

What You Need for the Basic Recipe

  • 1/4 cup whole flaxseeds
  • 2 cups water
  • Stainless steel fine mesh sieve
  • Saucepan

Instructions:

Start by placing the flaxseeds and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15 minutes.

Check on it to prevent stickiness. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow it to cool.

Then, strain the mixture to get the gel. You can use a stainless steel fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth.

Make sure to get all the flaxseed gel from the seeds…Use the back of the spoon to press down on the seeds to extract as much gel as possible.

Make sure to squeeze all that gel out! Be patient and squeeze well.

Once you’ve strained the flaxseed water and gel, let it cool before adding 1 tablespoon of argan oil and stirring. You can use more if you have dry hair or want that extra shine. I’ll share other ways to use flaxseed gel below.

Place it into a small bottle or container with a tight-fitting lid. I use this within a few days as I don’t add any preservatives to it. It’s easy to make, so I just make it weekly during the weekend.

5 Ways to Use Flaxseed Gel for Hair Growth

The ingredients I love adding to customize the flaxseed gel:

Hair Mask for Breakage

Once you have your gel ready, apply some to your scalp and massage well. Cover your hair with a shower cap or soft scarf. Flaxseed gel alone is an amazing way to nourish your hair without any added oils.

Argan-Infused Hair mask for Hair Growth

To promote hair growth, add 1 tablespoon of argan oil and a few drops of rosemary essential oil to the flaxseed gel and stir.

If you store the bottle in the refrigerator, make sure to shake it well before you use it. The oils and flax seed gel could separate slightly while sitting in the fridge.

Apply to your hair and massage well into your scalp. Work it through the lengths of your hair. Leave it in for at least 30 minutes to allow your hair to absorb all the nutrients before washing your hair.

When I use the oils, I tend to wash twice to remove any excess oils. This mixture is perfect for hair growth and also leaves hair shiny.

Hair Mask for Hydration

When my hair looks dry, and in need of some care, I mix the flaxseed gel with aloe vera gel.

Apply to your scalp and massage well. Leave it on for at least half an hour before you wash your hair.

Coconut milk is another great ingredient that hydrates hair. You can add a few tablespoons to this mixture, but make sure to cover it with a shower cap.

Deep Overnight Treatment for Frizz

You can leave the flaxseed gel overnight for deep conditioning (use a silk pillow cover, of course, so the cotton doesn’t just absorb the oil). I also like to wrap my hair in a loose silk scarf.

Moisturizing Curly Hair Mask

Mix the flaxseed gen with shea or cocoa butter and combine well until the gel is creamy. You can add another layer of this mixture to the flaxseed gel to seal in the moisture, define curls, and nourish dry ends.

Extra Usage:

You can totally use some of the argan oil-infused water on your face. I usually love to just use the leftovers on my skin. Argan oil is great for your skin, and the omega-3s in the flaxseeds help reduce inflammation in the skin as well

I hope you will try this easy mixture to quickly nourish and hydrate your hair.

Make sure to experiment iwth the ratio of flaxseed water and argan oil. You can use more oil if you’d like, and it will depend on your hair type and preference.
