How to Make Argan Oil Shampoo for Hair Growth (Homemade Ingredients)

In Morocco, growing up, we used traditional ingredients like rhassoul clay and argan oil as a shampoo, especially at the Hamam.

Rhassoul clay can cleanse your hair gently while providing lots of nourishment. The DIY Homemade shampoo below will nourish your hair deeply. It contains no harsh chemicals, and you’ll experience a natural, beautiful practice rooted in Moroccan culture.

Rhassoul clay naturally cleanses your skin and absorbs excess oil.

If you have very oily hair, adjust the argan oil quantity below. You can use just half a tablespoon.

You can use essential oils in this shampoo. A few that come to mind that can benefit your hair growth are rosemary, lavender, and tea tree. They’ll also add a nice fragrance.

Why Use Argan Oil as a Shampoo:

Growing up in Morocco, argan oil is used for all beauty purposes. For hair specifically, it’s exceptionally moisturizing. It can help with any damage to your hair, restore moisture, and reduce frizz.

I always get compliments about how shiny my hair is following an argan oil hair treatment!

Argan oil is also known for promoting hair growth and nourishing the scalp.

In addition, it’s packed with Vitamin E and antioxidants, which can help your hair grow stronger.

When used in shampoo, argan oil can form a protective layer from heat if you use hair dryers or straighteners afterward.

Alternative Way to Use Argan Oil:

If you don’t want to add the oil to the shampoo mixture, use it as a mask on your hair and leave it on for a few hours before shampooing it. However, I’d still add a bit of it in the shampoo to help moisturize your hair.

What You Need for Homemade Shampoo:

  1. 2 tablespoons of Rhassoul Clay – Optional, but I recommend it to get the full Moroccan experience.
  2. 1/2 cup of Liquid Castile Soap
  3. 1 tablespoon of Argan Oil
  4. Filtered Water: 1 cup
  5. Essential Oil (Optional): 10 drops (I use rosemary oil but you can also use lavender or tea tree for additional benefits)

How to Make Argan Oil Shampoo with Ghassoul Clay

  • Grab a container or use a bottle made for homemade shampoo.
  • Use a bowl first to mix the rhassoul clay first with 1 cup of filtered water. Mix well until all the clay is dissolved and you have a smooth liquid consistency.
  • Now, add the Argan oil (your preferred quantity). This will add moisturization to your hair.
  • Add the essential oil of your choice. I love to add rosemary oil because it can boost hair growth and is generally good for hair.
  • Mix everything well. And transfer to your container (or bottle). Use a funnel to pour the shampoo into the bottle to avoid spills.
  • And shake well.

How to Use Rhassoul Clary-Argan Oil Shampoo

  • In the shower, wet your hair first.
  • Apply a bit of the shampoo to your hair and scalp. Add more if you’d like.
  • Massage well and rinse.

After you dry your scalp with a towel, apply a couple of drops of argan oil to your hair, especially the ends. This will leave your hair shiny and also protect it from heat and damage.

I hope you give this homemade shampoo recipe a try!
